PML`s "quantum mechanics" have continued to improve one of rocketry`s favourite two-stagers, the Quantum Leap.

The new Quantum Leap II, now with the new Interstage 3000 staging coupler system, is a completely modular two-stage rocket. Once you assemble the four basic components, you can combine them to make any of the five rocket combinations and can change to any configuration in minutes. The new Interstage 3000 system is much easier to prep and use than the previous interstage coupler design. The IS3000 comes complete with timer mounts and a remote safety switch.

Both stages have...

  • Pre-slotted Quantum Tube airframe
  • G-10 fibreglass fins
  • "Kwik-Switch" motor mount
  • Piston ejection system
  • Nylon parachute

    Also included...

  • 12" payload section
  • Plastic nosecone
  • Interstage 3000 stage coupler w/electronics bay*
  • Explicit instructions

This 2-stage rocket kit is intended for the experienced HPR scratch builder intending to supply his/her own electronic parachute deployment system into the sustainer stage. NOTE: The following chart lists configurations of this kit that may be flown as it is received stock from PML. However, your addition of an electronic deployment system may/will make some of these configurations unavailable, depending upon the design of your system.

1: Nosecone     2: Upper (sustainer) stage     3: Payload section     4: Interstage coupler     5: Booster stage

Configuration Components Length Notes
A 1,3,5 49.25" Booster stage requires the use of payload section for stability
B 1,2 49.25"
C 1,3,2 61.25"
D 1,2,4,5 75.75" The upper stage requires electronic ignition **
E 1,3,2,4,5 87.75" The upper stage requires electronic ignition **

Interstage Coupler...

Interstage Couplers are used to house staging timers and to connect the upper and lower stages together. The Interstage 3000, the latest version from PML, is used in our two-stage rocket kits. Using an IS3000 system from PML is a quick, simple solution to an often difficult design problem.

  • Easy to assemble
  • Easy to prep
  • The standardized design allows easy timer swapping into other 3000 equipped rockets.
  • Designed to be used with the Perfect Flite Timer4.
  • Includes everything shown in drawing "Interstage 3000 System" below, except timer.
  • Easy to follow, detailed instructions

Interstage 3000 Coupler Detail

*This rocket is intended for experienced flyers only! A good understanding of the proper motor selection and staging techniques is mandatory when flying any multi-stage rocket. We strongly urge you not to fly this kit without an electronic parachute deployment system installed into the sustainer stage. Failure to do so will allow the sustainer stage to fall to earth without recovery deployment if the sustainer motor fails to ignite. If you are unsure about designing and installing your own electronic parachute deployment system, consider buying the Quantum Leap 3000 kit, which contains the electronic deployment components (except altimeter) as standard. To purchase a Quantum Leap 3000 kit already equipped with the CPR3000 Dual-Deployment Recovery System, click here.

 Specification:

Diameter: 3.0" | Height: 91.5" (fully configured) | MMT: 54mm Kwik-Switch
Parachute: 48" & 30" | Payload: 12"
Fin Array: 8 total | Fin Thickness: 0.06"

The QUANTUM LEAP II is an awesome two-stage kit for Level 1 and 2 flights. This rocket stands 91.5" (fully configured) tall, is 3.0" in diameter and has an 8 total fin design. This rocket comes standard with a 54mm Kwik-Switch motor mount and can fly on H thru J motors. At ~116 oz. (fully Configured), the 48" & 30" parachute is sized right for the stock kit to make a safe landing under most field conditions. This kit comes standard with our exclusive Linear Rail Lugs for use with 80/20 brand launch rails. The stock airframe is ideal for flights up to approx. 0.85 Mach.

Below you will find a number of upgrade options. Upgrading the parachute size may be necessary if you intend to build heavy or have a hard landing surface (i.e. gravel, pavement, desert playa, etc.). Some motors will accelerate this rocket to transonic or even supersonic velocities. Under these conditions, this kit may require the fin upgrade, foam encapsulation of the fin root, as well as other advanced construction skills.

Upgrades:
  • Quantum Leap II Chute Upgrade (For Hard Surface Landings) from 30&48 to 36&54 - $16.00
  • Q-Leap Upgrade, Add (2) HAMR-KS Motor Retainers now and Save 15% - $79.80
  • Substitute Phenolic Airframe (for DIY fiberglassing only; see Complete FAQ) - $8.00
  • Upgrade to Pre-Glassed Phenolic Airframe for Q-Leap II - $146.00

Add now and save:

  • Epoxy, Quick-Cure (5 min) - $16.99 (Normally $18.99)
  • Epoxy, Mid-Cure (15 min) - $16.99 (Normally $18.99)
  • Epoxy, Slow-Cure (30 min) - $16.99 (Normally $18.99)
  • Adjustable Density Expanding Foam - $16.99 (Normally $18.99)

Motor Recommendations | More Specifications

It is prudent to sim your kit/motor combination using the actual weight of your finished model to determine max velocity, altitude, ejection delay, etc. This will allow you to make an informed decision when selecting a suitable motor for your rocket. Please download and read the PML FAQ and/or consult with a NAR or Tripoli certified member to ensure your flights are fun and safe.
